Tokyo Weekend
Last Saturday I made it to Tokyo via the Shinkansen or the bullet train. I took the Nozomi 700 which is a very fast train. So two and a half hours later we were there. I was suppose to meet my friend at the silver bell meeting spot which is supposedly a very famous meeting spot at the fucking huge asss Tokyo station. This place is huge. It has like 3 malls inside of it too. I promtly got lost, and then called my friend on his cellphone. It turns out that I was like 20 feet from it the darn bell the whole time. So off we went, grabbed some grub and went back to his place before going out in the city for the night. His place is small, but so are most places in Tokyo. We did it up a really big mall, building, well it was sort of like a big store arcade place. There were a bunch of toy stores in the building but I really didn't buy anything. Just a few items, most things were really expensive. So I just kind of looked around. We ate dinner at the Wendy's just outside and boy was it packed, packed with a bunch of 20-soemthing year olds, most of which were women. I was tired so we went back and went to sleep early. The next day, Sunday, there was a large toy show at the big convention center near the shore so we headed over there. My friend can drive really well and we got there quickly and got an awesome parking spot. We spent most of the day at the show. But it was fun. I bought a few things but nothing really too crazy. Just a few Macross things mostly. After dinner we headed over to Ginza for some traditional Japanese food. A bunch of their friends came over and joined us it was a blast. Afterwards we went to an Italian place called Pronto. There was drank some whisky and shot the breeze.
I took Monday off so I didn't have to rush or anything. SO we ate at some fast food place that is only in Japan and it was cheap an good after that we headed out for Akihabara and did some more toy shopping. I thought that there would be some more cool electronics stores and video game stores but I guess that I was looking in the wrong spot, but I don't know what I was really looking for anyways. So after that we did some sightseeing and went to a famous large temple near Ueno. After that we made it to Tokyo tower. We walked there. I thought that it was a clear day and it seemed like it but it wasn't becasue you couldn' see Mt. Fuji even from the 2nd observatory, which was at 250 meters. It seemed like the highest point in all of Tokyo but it really wasn't, appearently there was a building that was taller on the horizon out in the distance. I was pretty disappointed that I couldn7t see Mt. Fuji from the tower of the darn tower. So my last chance to see the cool looking moutain was from the Shinkansen which was leaving at 3:50. On a quick taxi ride we wipped by the Diet building and then made it to the station just time. I said my good-bye and headed for the train. This time I took a Nozomi 500 and not the 700, both of which are really cool anyways. Both times I had a window seat, but this time it was still on the East side I was not able to see Fuji-san out my window. It was clear enough about 50 minutes into the train ride that I could catch a glimse of it out the East side windows and was able to catch a quick photo from across the car.
6 hours later I was back in Gobo. It took a long time to get home. I think that flying would have taken the same amount of time though. The second train that I took was a local express. It is called the Ocean Arrow. It seemed so frikin slow compared to the Shinkansen. But all in all it was a fun trip and didn't get much sleep until this past weekend.
